Where is Adirondack?
The Adirondack Mountains are a mountain range located in the northeastern part of New York. The Adirondack Mountain Region is home to the rustic furniture tradition of 19th-century America. The iconic Adirondack chair is based on a design by Thomas Lee around 1900, who had a summer cottage on Lake Champlain. Harry Bunnell, an out of work carpenter and friend of Thomas Lee, began to make chairs with backs, seats, and armrests made of wide planks. In 1905 he patented his version of the Adirondack style chair and this was the beginning of the sloped back - wide armrest Adirondack Chair that we know and love today.
What makes an Adirondack Teak Chair special?
The Adirondack Chair is one of the most popular outdoor chairs in the United States. The design of the chair has wide arms, a contoured seat and a scalloped back. The reason for the comfort of an Adirondack chair is that the chair back inclines 30 degrees and is curved to the shape of your back which in turn, provides excellent support to the lower back. The teak Adirondack chair has a deep, angled seat and broad arm rests. The arm rests are a major feature as these provide the perfect place to rest a plate of food & drink.
